Dieting's Dirty Little Secret - The Scientific Truths Behind WHY Diets Make You Fat...

Am not an expert when it comes to weight loss and diet but I read this from a certain website and I basically copy pasted to share with you.....Its quite lengthy but anyway, enjoy.

You're fat.
Again…
How the HECK did this happen???
All that weight you lost on the last diet is back on and then some. Now you just feel powerless, confused, out of control and ashamed. You assume it's because you weren't disciplined enough or you didn't have enough willpower... But still you can't work out how you got back to square one so quickly.

All you want to do is understand WHY now that you're off the diet (BUT eating even less than you did before you started to diet)… you've still gained all of the weight back and more.
WHY?

This is not a mystery.
Once you understand the science behind how diets actually make you fatter, you will have taken the first step to losing weight and keeping it off for good.

A groundbreaking study ("Long Term Persistence of Hormonal Adaptations to Weight Loss") conducted at the University of Melbourne reported that when people diet, the body's hormonal balance changes and it goes into serious weight gain mode.

According to researchers, calorie restriction results in a rapid, significant reduction in levels of leptin - a hormone that speeds up the metabolic rate and curtails appetite. It also causes a reduction in the levels of the appetite suppressing hormone Peptide YY. So when you diet, your metabolism slows down and all the regular hormones that keep your appetite in check just aren't around to protect you... As if that wasn't enough, there is a huge increase in the levels of ghrelin - a hormone which not only makes you hungry as a horse but also stimulates the release of a polypeptide that makes your body store even more fat, especially in the abdominal region!

The lead researcher, Joseph Proietto, said, "Our study has provided clues as to why obese people who have lost weight often relapse. The relapse has a strong physiological basis and is not simply the result of voluntary resumption of old habits."

Dr Rudolph Leibel of Columbia University agrees. He believes obesity is a biological, not a psychological illness. According to Dr Leibel's research, a body that has dieted behaves very differently to a body of the same size that has never dieted. When we lose weight, the body fights fat loss by making our muscle fibers more energy efficient so they burn up to a quarter less calories than the muscles of someone of the same weight who had never dieted. If you lose 10% of your body fat you'll need to eat 20 - 25% fewer calories to maintain your new weight. So if you were eating 2000 calories a day before your diet, now you'll need to eat 400 - 500 calories LESS per day just to keep your weight stable. This 'dieting effect', needing to eat fewer calories, can last years. No wonder we gain the weight back!

Dr Rosenbaum, a researcher at Columbia University scanned the brains of dieters vs non dieters. He found that the body tries to return to the old weight by giving the dieter a much greater emotional response to food combined with real cravings that make the person more excited about food and less able to resist it. Dr Rosenbaum said that this, when combined with the fact that the post diet body needs significantly fewer calories, creates the ideal situation for weight regain... ARGGH!!!

UCLA researchers analyzed 31 long term diet studies and found that the biggest predictor of long term weight gain was if the subject had been on a diet at some point in the past. So basically, if you've ever dieted, you're the one they expect to gain weight long term. One study they analyzed, where dieters were followed for 2 years, showed that 83% of dieters ended up heavier than when they started their diet.

Diets really don't work. They actually make the problem worse. Much worse.

Disclaimer :  I haven't tried this so i can't ascertain whether the infor is true or not.

My Style ~ Dark Blue Short Sleeve Suit, Red Tank and Red Heels with Rose Flower Prints…

Today I am in such a happy mood but honestly I don’t have a reason…..probably am yet to know why *laughs* or maybe because the weather is all beautiful. Anyway, I rarely wear suits. In fact I can count the number of suits I own. For starters, my suits have to be very unique and that is what I don’t get from the local shopping malls and if I do, they are damn expensive. Not that I can’t afford but….just something *laughs*. So today I realize it’s been over six months since I wore one of the suits in my closet. A Dark Blue suit to be precise. I love combining this suit with a Red tank or spaghetti top since the suit has Red threaded edges. The collar doesn't really look good with shirts so a tank or a spag top is always the choice. For shoes it’s always a Red pair. The Red watch also compliments the whole outfit. Check me out (Ignore the background...lol).

My Style ~ Red High-Stiff Collar Shirt, Black Khaki Pants and Leopard Print Heels…

What can I say? I wish I could go to work in casual attire all through but I have no choice so I have to make my Official attire work too. Red+ Black + Leopard print would help relax my day I guess. I love the shirt that am wearing today specifically because of the high-stiff collar. For the Black Khaki pants, well they are unique and they have pockets. For the shoes, I settled on the Leopard print instead of Black shoes to break the monotony between the pants and the shoes. To spice up the Red shirt, I wore the golden neck piece. I got so many personal errands to run this week, I hope for a successful week. Have a successful week too people.

My style ~ Orange Leather Jacket, Blue Cuffed up Jeans and Dark-Golden Heels...

The day was very cold. In fact, it drizzled throughout. Rain or sunshine we got to look good, right? Well, at the corner of my closet lies this Orange coloured leather jacket that I haven't worn for quite a while. It came in handy today for the warmth. I love bright colours and Orange is one of my favourites. I debated on whether to rock the Orange jacket with Black pants but I figured out my dark-golden heels couldn't compliment well with them. So I settled on the Blue cuffed up jeans. Inside the jacket I wore a White tank top that obviously wasn't seen the whole day because of the cold. Hope you had a great Sunday like i did. Keep warm and have a great week ahead......And remember to keep off negative energy.

My Style ~ White Boyfriend Blazer, Green Tank Top, Distressed Jeans and Golden Heels…

Saturday is here, my favourite day of the week. Shopping, lunch and movies. Well it is a bright day and beautiful one as well. No rain, the weather is not very hot either and it rained yesterday so less dust. Today I settle on a White Boyfriend Blazer, a Green tank top, distressed jeans and my lovely Golden heels. Remember I was searching for a White Boyfriend Blazer in one of my earlier posts? Well this is it. For my face….well just a moisturizer.......neither foundation nor powder, obviously because of the White Blazer. Of course a neck bling will also be rocked today. I love this bling and yes you will be seeing it in lots of my pics. Am also carrying a pink polka dot bag. I love the contrast in my today’s outfit. Enjoy your weekend y’all.

My Style ~ Blue Heels, White ‘Ama Kip Kip’ Tee, Dark Blue Faded Jeans and a Sling Bag…

So I finally bought myself a Bluish High-Low Skirt……am so happy. The only High Low skirt I own * laughs *. I can’t wait to rock it soon. Am thinking of wearing it with my Blue heels and this brings my thoughts to an outfit I wore some day with the same heels. I love this pair of Blue heels. I combined them with my White ‘Ama Kip Kip’ tee, Dark Blue faded jeans and a sling bag. It was a trendy combination…..I think. I decided to be matchy matchy….so matched the ‘Ama Kip Kip’ prints with my shoes. Check me out.Notice the Orange coloured earrings?

Track Suits…

Track Suits are no longer just for the gym. They are stylish and can be worn for a casual affair e.g. for a lazy Sunday afternoon or even for a movie. If you find the right size, fabric and colour that compliments your skin, you will look just amazing. Personally I prefer them in velvet fabric that is bright in colour. And they should be fitting. The likes of Green, Red or even Purple always do me good. Plus I love my Track Suit top with a front zipper so that I just zip up half way, especially when I have a cute tank top inside. A track Suit, a pony tail hairdo and loops for earrings is simply gorgeous. I see Gabby (Eva Longoria) in Desperate House Wives wearing her Track Suits with high heel slip ons and I think it’s acceptably chic and trendy….of course that’s how I wear mine too. Am thinking of a getting an Ed Hardy Track Suit soon but that’s a story for another day. For now check out some Track Suits inspirations that I collected.
